Biodiversity and Diving Guide to the Island of Rio
Projeto Ilhas do Rio
The Ilhas do Rio Project invites readers to know the results of years of scientific research in the insular ecosystems of Rio de Janeiro’s metropolitan region. A set of 302 species of algae, invertebrates, fishes, birds and cetaceans is here in presented through almost 500 photographs, revealing the islands’ unique marine biodiversity. Furthermore, this guide brings precious tips, maps and sketches of 10 diving sites in Cagarras Islands Natural Monument, Rasa and Cotunduba islands, Tijucas and Maricás archipelagos.
Solution
A bilingual book for two different audiences: divers who are interested in the local fauna and academic professionals of marine biodiversity. The bilingual book with 354 pages is divided into 4 subjects. The first one is about the Rio Islands Project and work history. The second, a one-of-a-kind guide to detail all diving spots of the islands surrounding Rio. Additionally, a marine biodiversity guide to present more than 300 species cataloged by the monitoring program of the Rio Islands Project, and finally, Tips and Testimonials to orient how to interact with marine animals and legally hire scuba diving operators.
Enhance the first Diving Guide of the islands surrounding the City of Rio de Janeiro, containing a folder map with the locations of diving start spots. Due to the importance and handling of the folder map, its insertion in the exact middle of the third notebook was essential. Providing durability for the user and feasibility in the technical production of the printing company.
Didactic Biodiversity Guide material, with graphically inviting technical information and data to every audience. In this case, resources such as iconographic drawing and typography are used to graphically present the amount of technical information about species with clarity.
Digital usability resource for a paper book. The book also contains Google Maps satellite locations of hot diving spots, and QrCodes for quick access for described links. In addition, a PDF format version for download on computers.
Result • Finalist of the 62nd Jabuti Award / 2020 • 14 Spontaneous media dissemination on digital and open TV Channels, radio, and relevant newspaper. • 1.000 copies distributed to educational institutions and libraries in several countries.
